Prosthetics

Orthopedic dentistry deals with the restoration of lost teeth and their functions using artificial materials.
Crown
If most of a tooth is destroyed, the best solution for restoring the integrity of the tooth is a crown. It is a “cap” that fits around the prepared tooth. Crowns are made of metal-ceramic, lithium disilicate (the so-called e-max), or zirconia. They are strong and durable, and modern materials and technologies make it possible to perform highly aesthetic and precise work. Most importantly, they can withstand chewing pressure, making them wear-resistant and fully restoring the function of the teeth.
Laminate or veneer
On the front surface of the teeth, there are ceramic or zirconia-based coverings used for high-quality aesthetic work.
Bridges
This is an orthopedic structure that replaces a missing tooth. Two adjacent teeth next to the defect are ground down, and a bridge is cemented onto them, consisting of crowns on these teeth and a suspended crown between them. The number of supporting teeth included in such a bridge depends on the condition of the supporting teeth themselves and the number of missing teeth. Supporting teeth must bear the chewing load not only for themselves but also for the missing teeth. Materials commonly used for bridges are metal-ceramic or zirconia. This type of prosthetic is chosen when it is not possible to implant the missing tooth or teeth for any reason.

Bridges can also be supported by abutment implants. In this case, one implant is installed, and a bridge of 3-4 units with 1-2 suspended crowns is made on it.
Removable dentures
Complete removable dentures replace the entire set of teeth, consisting of an acrylic base and a set of plastic teeth. Such dentures are held mainly by the vacuum created between the denture base and the oral mucosa. They are the most inexpensive solution for restoring a full dental arch. However, they have many drawbacks: they hold poorly, which affects chewing efficiency; upper dentures completely cover the palate, reducing taste perception; they require annual adjustments since bone volume constantly decreases; and they can also rub the gums.

Partial dentures replace missing teeth and are attached to the remaining teeth with clasps. Acrylic dentures are held in place by a crown, and when attached to abutment teeth with clips, they gain additional stability during chewing. Fixed partial dentures have a cobalt-chromium base, which makes them more comfortable for the patient since the base surface area is smaller. They are also more durable, though more expensive. However, upper dentures of this type do not affect taste perception, as the palate remains open.

Implant-supported removable dentures. In this case, implants have ball- or cylinder-shaped locks at the back, onto which the denture snaps. This option provides exceptional stability while chewing and keeps the palate completely open.
